On 1 June 2016, Brookfield Property Partners L.P., on behalf of its institutional partners, received NSW Cabinet approval for the development of Wynyard Place in the heart of Sydney’s CBD at 10 Carrington Street. On 15th October 2016, Multiplex were awarded the construction contract to build the project.

 

The $1 billion project will transform the Wynyard precinct into a modern, spacious and functional transport hub as well as providing a world class commercial and retail centre.

The site consolidates four properties immediately adjacent to Wynyard station into one centre:  301 George Street, the Menzies Hotel, Shell House on the corner of Carrington Street and Wynyard Lane and 285 George Street - all of which surround one of the city’s most active transport hubs.

The project will breathe new life into historic Shell House and 285 George Street, with their facades being protected and restored, creating another 9,400sqm of boutique office space within both buildings.

The project’s centrepiece is a 27-level premium grade commercial tower with a total net leasable area of approximately 59,000sqm 7,000sqm of high end retail space over four levels and basement parking.  It will offer world-class facilities, amenities and finishes, setting a new standard for commercial building and workplace and leisure area design.

Wynyard Place will upgrade facilities for Sydney’s rail and bus customers who transit through Wynyard station. The project will deliver grand station entrances on Carrington and George Streets and a new spacious, light filled transit hall that will transform Wynyard station into one a Sydney CBD signature precinct.

Wynyard Place will provide a significant improvement to the overall customer experience at Wynyard for commuters, workers and city visitors. The development has been designed to integrate with other projects such as Sydney’s $2.2 billion light rail project and will deliver direct access to the new Barangaroo pedestrian connection, Wynyard Walk.  The redeveloped transit hall will provide connectivity rail transport services at Wynyard Station, to the light rail, bus networks upgraded pedestrian networks such as the Hunter Connection, via a world class concourse that will be accessed by more than 100,000 commuters each day.

It is anticipated that over 3,000 jobs will be created during the demolition and construction phases.

Key outcomes of the project will be enhanced connectivity between the Wynyard Station precinct and other projects, such as Barangaroo.  Wynyard Park will also be integrated into the overall development to create more active and engaging public space.

Wynyard Place was designed by leading international architectural firm Make in collaboration with Sydney based company, Architectus. 

 

Sustainability was a design goal and the development has succeeded in achieving a 6 Star, Green Star – Office Design v3 rating and is targeting a 5.5 Star NABERS Energy rating.
